Is it a Christians' duty to be involved in politics?
I believe the answer to this question is yes. As Christian parents we want our children to grow up with good morals and vales. As well as having a strong connection to God.
There's an old saying "It takes a village to raise a child". This statement is very true in many ways. Parents can teach their children right and wrong but when the child attends school or becomes involved with the community, many problems enter the picture. Schools and neighborhoods play a big role in the influence of your child. In times past if a neighbor saw your child misbehaving that neighbor would chastise your child and then call you to inform you of your child's transgression. Most of us had the best intentions for our neighbors.
Unfortunately today times are much different which begs the question, why? Over the years our society has degraded from a strong moral way of life to what we see today. There are several reasons why, however the two greatest reasons are the lack of God in our lives as well as Americans becoming more tolerant to immoral behavior.
For instance, the sexual revolution which started in the 60s has decayed the very moral fiber of our nation. If you have doubt in what I consider to be one of many facts, then take the time to compare...for example TV in the 50s to TV as it is now. Then compare the timeline in which we have evolved to 2010. It is very shocking how far we have fallen in this short period of time.
The lack of God at the center of our lives and the acceptance of immoral behavior, has caused America to fall from the beacon of hope it once was. To a society of people who are self centered and self absorbed.
Additionally we can no longer feel that our children are safe even in their own homes. Many of us expect that when we do business with one another there is always an underlying alternative motive.
We no longer say hello to one another in passing, many of us even distrust those who are attempting to just be nice by uttering a simple hello. This type of behavior must stop!
We not only must affect change in our homes, churches and communities. We must make changes within our local, state and national leadership. We must insure change for our nation through the political process. We as Christians have allowed America's moral strength to decay because of our inaction.
In some cases our churches have avoided becoming involved because they were worried about their non-profit status! Do we really think God would condone such a weak excuse?
My favorite example is Jesus...When Jesus saw the money changers in the temple he was angered, he turned over their tables and ran them out. Jesus stood up to those who disrespected his Father's house! Because of this example I truly believe that we must stand and fight for our nation. We must fight for our children and their children! We must return our nation to it's founding principles. We must return America to the shinning beacon of light that it once was.
Together, helping our communities and teaching others what God would have us teach is key to the future of our nation. We must not be tolerant of those who threaten our way of life as God and our Constitution provides us.
Be proud of who you are, strive to live each day for the betterment of yourself, your family, your community and your nation. Remember this...one individual can and will make a difference. Just think of what we can do if we work together!
